San Francisco Climate Week 2026 was not merely a gathering of climate professionals—it was a convergence of intent, innovation, and influence. It was a space where policy met practice, where capital met conviction, and where the future of sustainability was not discussed in theory, but actively shaped in real time.

Setting the Tone: Accelerating the Transition — Opening Plenary & Leadership Address

The week began with remarkable momentum. The presence of Governor Gavin Newsom at Accelerating the Transition on 19th April was not only symbolic—it was strategic. His address underscored a growing recognition: climate leadership today demands not only political will, but cross-sector execution.

I had the privilege of moderating a session on Sustainable AI Infrastructure: Policy and Regulation with Nikunj J Parekh - Weekly AI Blog Christina Sewell Kevin Benedicto and Sudeshna Pabi Ph.D. . The discussion brought together leading voices to explore one of the most critical intersections of our time—artificial intelligence and sustainability. Conversations ranged from energy efficiency in data centres and digitalisation for energy optimisation to regulatory frameworks shaping the deployment of AI systems globally. Grateful to John Berry for the opportunity given to us.

Innovation at the Edge: Learning from Global Leaders

 Innovation Center Denmark, SF
Innovation Center Denmark, SF

The following day offered a deep dive into innovation through engagement with Innovation Centre Denmark, representing a country that stands at the forefront of renewable energy adoption, nearing complete reliance on clean energy systems.

The discussions were not abstract. They were grounded in applied research, real-world deployment, and measurable outcomes. This is where climate innovation must move—beyond ambition, into execution. I had the pleasure to learn from the powerful speeches by:

Jacob Vind, Consul General of Denmark in California and CEO, Innovation Centre Denmark Silicon Valley, Commissioner J. Andrew McAllister, California Energy Commission, Ram Narayanamurthy, Deputy Director, Building Technologies Office, US Department of Energy, Nina Hilbard, Teamlead, Energy Efficiency and Data, Danish Energy Agency and Michael Larcher, Solution & Sustainability Lead, North America, cBrain

Ocean to Action — Marine Ecosystems & Climate Solutions Forum

One of the most thought-provoking engagements of the week was centred around Ocean to Action. These discussions highlighted the urgency of addressing marine ecosystems—not as isolated environmental concerns, but as critical components of the global climate system.

The conversations between Miguel Sossa-Mardomingo , Capgemini Deputy Sustainability Lead for the Americas and Fabien Lamaison, Executive Director of Plastic Odyssey Fund about their initiative stood out for its practical, scalable solutions to ocean plastic pollution. I equally enjoyed the panel discussion led by Dylan Garrett, President of Synapse (Capgemini Invent) and his compelling conversations around seaweed-based innovations—an emerging field with significant potential for carbon sequestration, sustainable materials, and alternative supply chains. It was inspiring to hear the story of the legendary polar explorer Jean-Louis Etienne — the first person to reach the North Pole solo!

These sessions reinforced a key truth: climate solutions must be interdisciplinary, integrating science, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.

Climate Capital Mixers & Impact Investor Roundtables

No conversation about climate progress is complete without addressing capital. San Francisco, true to its identity, brought together entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and innovators in dynamic mixers and roundtables.

These interactions were not merely networking opportunities—they were deal-making environments. The presence of climate-tech founders alongside impact investors created a powerful ecosystem where ideas could rapidly transition into funded solutions.

On 21st April, the Stabilise sessions provided a platform for researchers, practitioners, and solution providers to share cutting-edge insights. Sessions on audit-ready corporate GHG inventories and nature-based solutions highlighted a critical shift in the climate narrative—from commitments to accountability.

The presence of Secretary Wade Crowfoot of the California Natural Resources Agency further emphasised the role of governance in enabling climate action at scale organised by Peter Braster, SFED.

The following day, 22nd April was Equally impactful was the session hosted by DLA Piper: Beyond the Bench: Turning Climate Risk Disclosure Uncertainty into Strategy. This discussion between Sid Baksh , Senior Project Manager ADEC Innovations  with phenomenal speakers such as Jesse Medlong Of Counsel, Product Liability, Mass Torts, and Class Actions DLA Piper, Katrina Tomecek - Associate, Product Liability, Mass Torts, and Class Actions DLA Piper, Kristy Balsanek Partner Global Co-Chair, Sustainability DLA Piper and Joy Tumang captured a growing corporate challenge—how to translate regulatory uncertainty into strategic advantage. The answer lies in proactive adaptation, not reactive compliance.

Family Offices and Investors Summit by ATLAS Capital

The event venue at the USS Hornet Sea, Air and Space Museum is a historic and memorable venue. Just after humanity was back from the moon, this venue held more importance. This room had a $130bn fund to be disbursed for climate tech ventures. All with the hard work of Djoann Fal and the team of Atlas Capital . I was glad to meet a few familiar faces and friends - Jonathan and was glad to learn from the excellent moderator and speaker James Tu, CFA, Fusion Park, Jocelyn Matyas, Cisco Foundation, Daria Saharova, World Fund, Shunondo Basu, Rockefeller Foundation and all the speakers during the event.

Moments Beyond the Agenda: Climate Week Networking Series — Founders, Leaders & Informal Dialogues

Climate Week was not only defined by formal sessions. Some of the most meaningful insights emerged in informal settings—over breakfasts, evening mixers, and chance conversations.

Engagements with female founders and climate leaders were particularly inspiring. These were not just stories of entrepreneurship, but of resilience and systemic change. Female Founders and Funders Breakfast organised by Assel Seitova and the documentary on Water by the team of Women in Cleantech and Sustainability Sara Eve Fuentes and Mica Miro . I had the pleasure to meet the board of WCS  - Parul Sharma, Farah Saeed and the dynamic ladies.

This energy was taken to the melody center to learn from the conversations with leaders such as Jonathan Foley and Stephan Nicoleau brought clarity to the evolving landscape of climate solutions and investment strategies. I enjoyed the session “Closing the Funding gap” and talk given by Lauren Gifford. The session on From Farm to table to planet highlighted the methane emissions problem due to the burbs of cows/buffaloes in the Agri-dairy industry. Well, on the lighter side, what should I say, had the case been vice versa, those mammals may be discussing the air pollution by humans! (We just don’t know their language)

Heatmap House: Chasing Climate Moonshots

Another venue which is etched in my memory - The historic Klamath ship. I had the fortitude to meet some of the real problem solvers such as Kimberly Kovacs and supporters Ian Monroe and Susan Su

The day ended with listening to and CAPS Advisor and the amazing super inspiring work done by Bill Kelly at Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS)—an initiative empowering students with climate education and career direction. This is where long-term impact lies: in shaping the next generation of climate leaders.

The Global Climate Solutions Summit at the Punch Line by a team led by Ron Erd emerged as a defining moment of the week. It brought together investors, founders, policymakers, and thought leaders in a setting that was both intellectually rigorous and refreshingly candid. It focussed on reverse pitching, I saw that the first time and truly enjoyed it.

What stood out was not just the quality of dialogue, but the diversity of perspectives. Climate-tech entrepreneurs were awarded for innovations such as Amrit Singh Khalsa who worked on decarbonising the cement industry and others. Some of the best speakers: Josh Becker — California State Senate, Bert Bruggeman — The Ocean Cleanup, Tom Chi, Founding Partner, At One Ventures, Rajesh Swaminathan, Partner, Khosla Ventures, Joshua Posamentier,  Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Congruent Ventures, Sophie Lamparter, Founding Partner, Vitamin°C and others.

One statement from the summit continues to resonate: “The present administration in the United States is the most climate-friendly government to date.” - Punch Line 😀

Whether debated or accepted, it reflects a broader geopolitical shift—climate is no longer peripheral. It is central to economic, industrial, and strategic decision-making.

A Week of Convergence, A Future of Action

San Francisco Climate Week reaffirmed a powerful reality: we are no longer in the era of climate awareness—we are in the era of climate execution.

The conversations are sharper. The capital is more targeted. The technologies are more mature. And the urgency is undeniable.

Yet, the most important takeaway is this: progress will not be defined by individual efforts, but by ecosystems.

Governments, enterprises, investors, academia, and civil society must move in synchrony. Only then can we transition from ambition to impact.

As I reflect on the week, one thought remains clear— the future of sustainability is not being imagined. It is being built. Now.
